I was dragging not to hear this (even though I said it all along) but the answer has arrived.
My little man has been finally diagnosed with Growth Hormone Deficiency. When they ran the last tests they wanted to make sure that his low thyroids weren't throwing off the super low growth hormones but now that he is stable on his thyroid meds it was still the same.
I am not having my official meeting with the endocrinologist until November to discuss treatment and when its starting. This will also be important to figure out a good age for him because obviously he can only grow so much in so much time even with growth hormones. I am so curious what his predicted height will be. Prior to him arriving I had my discussions with the Dr. and he always said he needed to see him and he would be able to have a better idea re: his height.
As for the resistance re: his meds. The Dr. said that he was only resistant to one medication so we are starting meds up again probably mid September since the new medication has to be ordered. Just good to know for other new positive parents that if your Dr. ever takes your kid of all the meds cold turkey, don't worry. As long as their levels are okay they are fine.
I am sort of a little down today, feeling like when I first found out Anastasia had Autism. Its sort of a shock and than it wears off. When you are guessing that there is something wrong with your child you always wish for a miracle, as for Micah I was hoping proper nutrition and than his low thyroid would cure it all:(
It will be okay, because without a shadow of a doubt God has chosen him for our family and we will prevail. Micah has a strong personality to conquer this. And on top of that he has a mama that can kick some serious ass (sorry for being vulgar) if someone is messing with her kids:)

Oral Surgery
Yesterday was the big day. The kids finally got their teeth fixed. It was an all day affair but in the end so worth it. The hospital staff with simply amazing compared to when Amira got her oral surgery and they treated her like an alien because she is HIV. These people were really nice, didn't use their gloves much and even hugged and kissed on the kids. You would be surprised how many uneducated Dr.'s and nurses are out there when it comes to HIV and how it can be spread.
Micah's surgery ended up being over two hours. There was one tooth that gave the dentist "hell" he said. The dentist told me that Micah was his worst case ever when it comes to childrens' teeth. He got 4 porcelain crowns in the front and several silver ones in the back. Micah was not a happy camper when he woke up because I wasn't there. I was upstairs checking in Misrak with the anesthesiologists. When I finally got down there he saw me (he had just calmed down a minute before) and started screaming again for a long time. He looked really bad, swollen and exhausted. Imagine that tiny little body being under for over 2 hours.
Misrak was under for about 1 hour, and after she woke up she looked beautiful like she was never out of it. She just got 2 crowns in the back and numerous filling and sealants.
In the evening Micah spiked a fever of a 103 at 8 pm and it lasted all the way till the morning. He was breathing heavy and switched at time. Luckily his fever went down later in the day but the Dr. said to bring him in if he spikes another fever.
I am soooooooooooo thankful that this surgery is over. Can you imagine all the pain they had in their mouth?

Quick growth update
This is actually a week old but both of the kids went to the Dr. last week and Micah has gained a whopping 3 pounds and Misrak 4 pounds since coming to America. She outweighs Biruk by 2 pounds. Currently they still have to see the Dr. once a month and than when they are stable on meds and stuff than they go every 3 months.
Misrak has grown an inch and Micah a half inch.
They took more blood from Micah to re-test his thyroid and growth hormones. This wont be back for another 2 weeks. We should get better results with his growth hormones since he now has been on his thyroid meds for over a month.
Dr. F felt why keep him on the meds if they don't do him any good but he definitely needs to be put on something. Misrak is borderline on having to start taking meds.
Also Micah now has another ear infection in the ear that doesn't have a hole and on more antibiotics but he is being a trooper as you can see in the pics.

What a Day! More Health Stuff
Today was really crazy. Lots of unexpected stuff but it all worked out to the children's benefit. Amira had a dentist appointment because she lost her crown and a possible abscess, her upper lip was so swollen. As we took her in the dentist fixed her crown but found that she indeed had an abscess on the same side. She said the tooth needed to be removed asap but needed to go to an oral surgeon.
In the mean time Micah had his ENT appointment. He has a hole in his ear. They don't want to prescribe anymore antibiotics and said they need to see how its doing without. If it is not getting any better they need to put tubes in his ears. Even though his hearing test wasn't scheduled until August, the Dr. demanded a hearing test today so we returned for that in the afternoon. He has hearing loss also. The only very terrible thing is that Micah cannot go in the water or like swimmig pool for a long time. That really choked me up. How can we do a summer without a pool, how can we explain to Micah he cannot go in the pool. He cannot even take a bath were he puts his head under the water. That is his favorite thing to do. I just don't know.
In the mean time Kevin checked back with the dentist at the military hospital and he also took in Amira without an appointment. Guess what, he pulled that tooth out for free. No more abscess, tooth going. My poor baby is looking like a grandma now. I really hope that her front teeth are growing in soon. Amira has now been front toothless for over one year and its starting to annoy her. It was interesting to hear the dentist say that the way the other dentist put in her crowns that they are coming in cricked so he wants to fix that too with some wires or something. We will also get both Misrak and Micah's teeth fixed for free and they even do Misrak all at once even though she is 7. So we have their surgery scheduled for Augsut 4. I just hope they both can hold out that long.
It was amazing to see all the children pray and thank God for his goodness and they were all so thankful, especially Amira, and my precious Misrak was just praying over the 2 little ones with her hands on their heads and my hands on their heads too and showed her thankfulness for making her siblings healthy it just made me cry. She told me tonight how much she loves us all and how happy she is. She says that often but tonight was special and she looked like an angel. I am getting choked up again.

More Health Updates
Thanks for checking in. I know there are some people here who are checking in on the health status of the kids, especially for Micah and his growth and some have even a deeper bond since they have known him at AHOPE. Thanks M and J and others and even the ones that I don’t know following Micah's journey home but I do appreciate you and ones loving on my boy while he was there. We will see what the future holds for us but I have nothing but good feelings even if my precious son is only 5 foot one day. I had a dear friend tell me that Micah is so amazing because I said “Yes” to God even though I was afraid.
Let's start out with Misrak’s health since it is so short. She is still super well. She doesn’t require any meds. Her viral loads look good. All she takes right now is fungus medication for her head. BTW, she passed on fungus to the other 3 so all 4 kids are on fungus meds, hehe. As for the dentist, they denied her surgery at the hospital. She will have to do it at the office over a minimum of 3 visits to fix her 11 cavities. Let’s hope she is strong enough and hangs in there. She is only 7 and that’s a lot on a 7 year old.
Now to Micah: His iron stores are actually fine now so we can stop the iron. He is still some anemic, but that could be due to a combination of the meds and low thyroid. Which is the big news-- his thyroid levels on repeat are definitely low. The Dr. wants him to take thyroid replacement pills and re-check the thyroid in November. Growth hormone test is abnormally low also, but Dr N explained that this can be falsely low as long as the thyroid level is low. Low thyroid also on its own causes short stature. We are really making great progress at what we are finding out.
Micah is still detectable which worries me that maybe he has some resistance. We might have to change up his meds but having to deal with the meds and viral loads now with all the 4 kids, even though not all are on meds I am pretty mellow about it when they are out of whack. I still remember the beginning times with Amira, it was pretty stressful, every time they went crazy I thought she was going to die:)
Micah is also on his fourth antibiotic for his ear. Still draining with wax. We have an appointment for the ENT doctor mid July; and an appointment with the cardiologist for his heart murmur. Yeah he has a heart murmur too but the doctor says not to worry that they can be false. I have truly learned not to stress anymore until I know more.
His dental surgery is scheduled for July 7 but we might not do it just yet because the Army
Hospital might do it for free but that just a hope right now. They will have to do a lot of work; putting 6 porcelain crowns on the front and 8 silver crowns in the back and much much more. Some of this teeth are so badly rottened that there isn't even a tooth left anymore. I think his teeth are out of ALL kids are the worst. Poor guy. Glad he is so happy go lucky all the time. Can you imagine what he will be like when he is in perfect health already being such a happy kid? I think Jennifer commented that once on my blog and I totally agree with her.

Health Updates
All the tests have come back negative for both kids. Not even parasites in either of the kids. Micah still has a horrible ear. I don't know what is going on. He is on his 3rd antibiotic and its still the same. Next week we will get to do the blood test to check his thyroid. So that means we don't know what is wrong with his giant belly but hopefully with nutrition it will go down in time. Amira had a big belly too but nothing like Micah. His is just outrageous. I have to take a picture sometimes.
They both had some molloscums here and there and even they seem to all fade away. Most of them they scratch open but luckily they didn't come back or get infected.
So now the only huge bill that is awaiting us is the dentist. I still haven't figured what to do about it but it has to be done, SOON. We are talking close to $5,000.00 out of our pocket for both kids. We finally got a pre surgery bill for Misrak . She seems to be in much more pain than Micah. In fact we had to take her in today to see if she had an abscess in her mouth but the dentist said there was nothing but a cavity. But sometimes its hard to tell with Misrak because she like to exaggerate her pain but I have to take her serious until our English communication is getting better. Endocrinologist today
Little stinker. This was a few days ago after I put him down for a nap. When I checked on him he wasn't in his bed and I found him in my bed. Don't ask me how he got in there because the bed sits up super high.
The kids are napping; i just wanted to let you all know really quick.
Most of you wonder after I just posted that it will be about 4 months to get in but we called this Tuesday to get an appointment and had it today. I have to be honest, the endo Dr., Dr. Fairchok, and I, have been following Micah and talking about him, looking at his pics, before I even accepted his referral so he was anxious to see him he said so he put a note in the computer so we could see him right away. Ha, and he stole his heart too just like he does everyone Else's.
Thanks first of all to all of you praying for my little prince. Awhh I love him so much I get choked up writing about him.
Many of the tests already came back, including his giardia (more parasite test outstanding) and they all were negative. The only thing that came up was that he is borderline anemic and need iron in liquids. It is super low.
Well guess what???? :)))) His bone scan came back and his bones are at a 2.5 to 3 y/o by the endo Dr. and 3 y/o by the radiologist reading. This is super great news because it means that he can still catch up big time. Not catch up and become 6 foot but catch up to be a little over 5 foot maybe even 5'4:) Basically if a normal boy hits puberty at 16 he would hit it at 19. He wants to see how he grows over the next 6 months to a year. He said if he grows one inch in six months that would be great. He really was super nice and also told me that regardless even if he is not diagnosed as having growth hormone deficiency, he can still get growth hormones for a while. So sweet, he even investigated for me what was out there and told me there is a brand new one that's not even a needle. Don't get me wrong here, I am not obsessed with him getting them hormones but its good to know that they are willing especially after talking to 2 parents with that problem and see the hell they have been through to get any services.
At this moment the endo dr. put in more blood tests to test him for GHD but his iron needs to come up first so we will be back taking more blood in 15 days. Also his tyroid aren't looking to good and if it is just a tyroid problems that can be easily fixed. But that all will be tested when we go back in 15 days.
So in the mean time, we are chilling and watching the little fella grow with just lots of good nutrition but even more so lots and lots and lots of love.

Dr. Appointment Today
I was looking forward to see our beloved Dr. F today to start everything such as thorough exams and referrals.
The examination for Micah went smoothly. He of course has to get numerous stool samples for parasites and other things because of his humongous belly and diarrhea.
Misrak made me cry with her. She was so very upset getting examined it was unreal. It took her at least 30 min to calm down after that. And Dr. F is the most gentle Dr. I have ever met. She is a female too. Definitely some trauma there without getting into it on a public blog.
Than we went on to get the shots and blood draws done and of course the blood they are taking each time is just crazy. Huge amounts. To watch Micah taking all this blood from his tiny body made me sick. They both were extremely upset in there too. Plus they each got 3 immunizations in the legs and arm.
After that we went on to the Radiology department. Dr. F could still hear something in Micah's lungs or wherever something was so she made sure that he got a chest x-ray. It was fine. We also got the bone (wrist) x-ray done to determine his age. That one didn't go off to well on me but I am not going to discuss it until I talk to the endocrinologist about Micah's growth. Now that referral appointment can take some time it being a military hospital.
Misrak more likely will too start her medications soon due to her viral load but Dr. will let me know after she reads the results. Micah's viral load looked really good but he was already on meds anyway. Micah also has a raptured ear drum so he was put on more meds for that. Misrak has a huge mollescum by her neck and other places got infected; she is on antibiotics and got some fungus meds for her head.
Gosh, the kids are already so wonderful, I can't imagine what they will be like when they aren't hurting anymore. They are such troopers. We were at the hospital ALL day today but beyond the crying I was amazed how well they did. Amazing kiddos.

Dentist
First off Micah has a full blown ear infection so he was put on another dose of antibiotics. And whatever is coming out of his ear smells really bad. We are not seeing the main Dr. until 5/21.
Today we had the dentist appointment. Misrak for sure is at least 7 the dentist said and has several cavities but her teeth are still in much better shape than Micah. Many of her teeth are already her adult teeth.
Micah's teeth a in really bad shape. Just as bad as Amira's if not worse. Every single one of his teeth is rotten. The dentist will schedule surgery next month at the hospital just like she did with Amira. The bad thing is she cannot just jank Micah's teeth out because he has much longer to go than Amira does for his new teeth to come in. So extra money for crowns. Misrak will go too, the Dr thinks it will be less traumatic for her since she has a lot of cavities so we will do it all in one day.
Ughh I am dreading this dentist bill but oh well, that's life.

Home from the Hospital - Mollescum
I just got home this afternoon with Amira. We were at the hospital since Tuesday (Kevin and I) taking turns on staying with her. I have new gained respect for the families that have to stay at hospitals for days and weeks keeping their families apart. Anyways, whoever has been following my blog knows how annoyed I was by Amira mollescum and that this Dr. wouldn't help her. In fact the dr. at the hospital said that she didn't know what she was doing and that it was her fault it got so infected. They said that Dr. should have never poked it.
On Tuesday we had a regular appointment with the eye dr to check it. They wanted to sent her home and come back in 2 weeks for surgery (hellllo?) but her normal pediatrician said "heck no" and made an executive decision to keep her at the hospital. They were worried she had some nasty stuff growing in there which today I found out she did. But the antibiotics should take care of the stuff growing in there. There was a huge sign on the door to only come in the cloves and gowns but I believe there were other reasons for that, but whatever. They also wanted to rule out she didn't have MRSA. I was hoping they would cut the whole mollescum away and they told Kevin they did but later on when she came out of surgery they basically told us that they didn't cut it but sucked out everything. They are extremely confident that is will not return. Its still kinda swollen but it looks but so today I really am relying on the fact that they told me the truth and it will not return.
Amira and Biruk missed each other like crazy and called each other all day on the telephone. Biruk was very brave and didn't cry when he had to sleep alone in his room.
After the surgery
Being reunited with Biruk. She shared one of her balloons with him. I will post more pics of Amira later. Her eye really looks much nicer than on the picture.
On Tuesday we had a regular appointment with the eye dr to check it. They wanted to sent her home and come back in 2 weeks for surgery (hellllo?) but her normal pediatrician said "heck no" and made an executive decision to keep her at the hospital. They were worried she had some nasty stuff growing in there which today I found out she did. But the antibiotics should take care of the stuff growing in there. There was a huge sign on the door to only come in the cloves and gowns but I believe there were other reasons for that, but whatever. They also wanted to rule out she didn't have MRSA. I was hoping they would cut the whole mollescum away and they told Kevin they did but later on when she came out of surgery they basically told us that they didn't cut it but sucked out everything. They are extremely confident that is will not return. Its still kinda swollen but it looks but so today I really am relying on the fact that they told me the truth and it will not return.
Amira and Biruk missed each other like crazy and called each other all day on the telephone. Biruk was very brave and didn't cry when he had to sleep alone in his room.
It actually looked worse when she went in. Her eye was completely shut.

What a Loser Doctor
So my Amira has been home for over 3 months and I have been seeing this Dr. re: her humongous mosloscum right under her eye. If you look at her pictures you can see how much bigger it has gotten over the months. So first she prescribes a $700.00 medication. Nothing. I finally told Kevin to take her in and have it all cut open. The Dr. was all against it because she thinks Amira would have huge scar. She prescribes this medication, Retinal?, to put on her mol. every night so I put it on for about 3 days and I swear it swell up so badly it looked like someone punched her so I stopped the medication. This morning I washed Amira face and she kept saying aua, aua, like I was hurting her and suddenly I discovered a huge open wound right under her moloscum. Talking about what kind of a scar she is gonna have now? So we took her back to the Dr. and she still wouldn't cut it open but just kept poking at it and it still looks the same. I am just so heartbroken over Amira open wound. I swear it looks like someone took a razor blade and cut her skin open. I was trying to take pics but the camera wouldn't take and close ups.
Anyways, I just don't know what to do about this anymore. I really think this Dr. doesn't even know what it is. Obviously this Mol. can't go away naturally like regular ones because its right under her eye. :(

Oral Surgery today
We had to be at the hospital at 6:30am with a surgery date at 8:00am. I was happy, Amira was the first patient for the dentist. We arrived home at 1:00pm. She is in a lot of pain this evening. But Amira was such a trooper all day. She is just so strong and I am so proud of her. I got her some over the counter kids motrin and it seems to make her more comfortable. We have been waiting for this date a long time and it finally come. The dentist that I chose decided to pull her 4 front teeth and not put anything up there which was fine with me. It saved me a lots of money and a bunch of moms that have little ones actually told me just to pull them. She also pulled 3 more in the back which was a total of 7. We also have I think about 7 silver crowns, at least. The surgery went really well and I am so glad its finally done. This Friday we have the huge mosluscum under her eye looked at again and hopefully the Dr. will cut and drain it. This is the same Dr. that prescribed her the 700.00 medication and it didn't do anything. All the other dermatologist don't have appointments till May so I guess I am desperate to go back to this lady. We will see.

Health updates and going back to work
It seems like we are moving forward some re: all the kids' health issues. It was never anything big but running and running to the dr's and all the distributing of meds is getting old.
I now am distributing meds to 4 children so I had to make myself a list because I started to get really confused. I figured what if something happens to me, Kevin wouldn't know where to start.
First off I am so thankful beyond my wildest dreams that I have health insurance and on top of that the military retired insurance from Kevin. That has helped so much because we didn't have to pay all the co-pays like some people. Having served 22 years in the military has finally paid off including all the many months I had to raise the children by myself because Kevin was overseas.
Biruk has to be on TB meds for one year. His TB is not active or contagious, x-rays were negative. In fact in most countries they don't even put people on meds if the TB comes back negative but the Dr. said in America they do anyway, just in case. It's just a precaution here.
They were both tested for Giardia/parasites and it came back negative. Yeahhh good for me. One less medication.
Amira got her medication called Aldara for her huge moluscum under her eye and that is $700.00 for 24 packets. Kevin didn't believe me, he had to call the pharmacy. Again, all covered because of military insurance.
Still haven't heard back from the oral surgeon but Amira is starting to get cranky with some of her teeth, rightfully so. They need to get taken care of asap.
Amira's huge fungus on her head is almost gone thanks to my wonderful husband for cleaning it 2x week and the meds of course.
They have been enrolled in pre-school 3x week for 3 hours each session. And guess what.... Its free. I guess they have a program her where the kids can go for free just because they are disadvantaged for just coming here... language etc...
This was really an answer to prayer for me because I didn't want Kari (Anastasia's provider) and Kevin to carry all the burdens of babysitting Amira and Biruk. So now they are split up between Kevin, Kari and pre-school.
This is good for me because I have to go back to work this Thursday. I was home with the kids 4 weeks exact. I can't believe time flew like this. I have never imagined and hoped there would be a way that I wouldn't have to go back to work but there is just no way right now. Wishful thinking on my part. I was horribly burdened by this babysitting situation. There was no way I could afford daycare so at least now all I have to pay is Kari and Kevin doesn't have the kids every single afternoon. God is so good and he always makes ways, even the very last minute.
